1. Experienced Glassblower

Job Summary

Kitras Art Glass is seeking multiple experienced Glassblowers at its growing studio in Fergus, Ontario, Canada. The successful candidates will be responsible for the efficient production of high-quality handblown glass products in this permanent, full-time position.

Kitras Art Glass has been in business for over 30 years and is a family-run blown glass studio selling in both Canada and the United States. The business is quickly expanding and is in need of more glass maker talent.

Glassblowers at Kitras work in a production and manufacturing environment but also focus on the artistic integrity of each piece of glass produced. This position is not a studio position, it’s a full-time production role, in a fast-paced environment. Kitras also offers a piecework program after daily quotas are met for all glassmakers.

The Kitras team can help with work permits and housing, if necessary, for international applicants.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work effectively in a team environment, with a proactive approach to ensuring high standards of quality and workmanship.
  • Co-ordinate and produce products using all available techniques, including mold blowing and hand-glass making.
  • Demonstrate good judgment from learned knowledge to assess and solve problems as they present themselves in the production process.
  • Work with molten glass (from a furnace) and a blowing pipe to form the glass.
  • Assist designers with the development of new collections, products and techniques. Work effectively and pro-actively with technical consultants and management.
  • Train and support the growth of less skilled team members, as appropriate.
  • Help set up the shop for production and clean-up of the shop area at the end of each shift.
  • Provide glassblowing demonstrations to the general public, when the studio opens to the public once again.
  • Assist with maintenance of glass-house facilities, as required.
  • Maintain a safe work environment following all protocols and safety standards.
  • Be aware of systems and processes and embrace a LEAN mindset looking for opportunities to make production more efficient.
  • Perform any other duties management may assign.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Ability to work full-time, second shift.
  • 2-5 years of glass making experience, ideally in a production environment.
  • A desire to maintain and develop glassmaker skills and willingness to undertake any necessary training in order to fulfill the role.
  • Experience training and sharing knowledge with other glass workers.

Pay range: $20 to $25/hour, based on experience. Kitras also has a piecework program available to all production employees.

2. Assistant Glassblower

  • Operate and maintain finishing machines to grind, drill, sand, bevel, decorate, wash and/or polish glass or glass products.
  • Assist Kitras designers with the development of new collections, products and techniques. Work effectively and pro-actively with technical consultants and management.
  • Help set up the shop for production and clean-up of the shop area at the end of each shift.
  • Assist in glassblowing demonstrations to the general public.
  • Assist with maintenance of glass-house facilities, as required.
  • Assist in Lehr programming, production and reannealing, as required.
  • Maintain a safe work environment following all protocols and safety standards.

3.  Warehouse Assistant 

Job Summary:

Kitras Art Glass is looking for multiple organized and motivated Warehouse Assistants to join our production glassblowing facility in Fergus, Ontario. The Warehouse Assistant, reporting to the Operations Manager, will assist with the inventory production process, inventory packaging, labeling and organization and storage. The Warehouse Assistant will also package, scan and prepare orders for delivery. The ideal candidate is comfortable working on their feet, focused on meeting quotas and experienced in inventory software and databases. The Warehouse Assistant may also operate a forklift, so a candidate with experience and a valid license is preferred.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Move inventory and materials across facilities
  • Process inventory for delivery
  • Sort, organize and store inventory in the proper warehouse location
  • Package items and label correctly
  • Scan delivered items and ensure they meet quality standards
  • Report damaged or missing inventory to supervisor
  • Stack and organize large bulk items
  • Remove inventory from trucks or shipping and delivery to proper location
  • Mix colour for glass production
  • Move materials from facilities to workstations, pick-up locations or other locations
  • Drill glass as necessary
  • Wear safety gear at all times
  • Operate heavy machinery like forklifts to move or store inventory
  • Ensure warehouse workspace is free of debris and remove safety hazards from aisles
  • Work as an active team member to complete team goals
  • Assist with quality control
  • Prepare documentation and inventory for audits
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by management

Requirements, knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a license or certification, as dictated by the province, to operate heavy machinery as needed
  • Physically able to stand, sit, move, squat, walk and climb during the course of a regular shift
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds or more regularly
  • Able to multitask and prioritize work assignments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with inventory software, and able to upload data into the company system
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Pays attention to detail and monitors the quality of inventory
  • Highly organized and able to store items efficiently
  • Comfort in following all health and safety procedures and regulations, as dictated by the Kitras and the province

Pay range: $16/hour
